What Is an Anonymous Story Viewer?

When you watch someone's Instagram story the normal way, your username is added to their viewer list — the person can see that you looked. An anonymous story viewer lets you watch a public account's story without appearing in that list. It's useful when you want to catch up on a public account discreetly. ClipStash's anonymous viewer is still in development — in the meantime, our Story Downloader already lets you save any public story with its link.

What the Story Viewer Will Do

Here's what we're building.

1

Search a public account

Enter a public Instagram username to pull up their currently active stories.

2

Watch without being seen

View the story here instead of in the app, so your name never lands on their viewer list.

3

Save it if you want

Download any story you're watching straight to your device, the same way our Story Downloader works today.

Anonymous Story Viewing — Common Questions

Does it work on private accounts?

No. Only content from public accounts can be viewed or saved. Private accounts are not accessible through ClipStash, and we don't attempt to bypass anyone's privacy settings.

Can I save a story right now?

Yes — while the anonymous viewer is in development, use the Story Downloader with a story link copied from the Instagram mobile app. See our story-saving guide for the steps.

Is anonymous viewing against the rules?

Viewing publicly shared content is generally fine, but you should always respect creators and use what you view responsibly and for personal purposes only.
